ABOUT US

Daniel Rechtshaffen Criminal Defence understands that being charged with a criminal offence may be the most stressful and disruptive thing that can happen to a person. Starting with the initial consultation, we seek to put our clients at ease. First, we will explain the timeline of a criminal charge, from the arrest through to its conclusion. We will then lay out a detailed plan for strategically attacking the case against you.  We will also ensure that at every stage, you are kept fully informed of the progress in your matter.

Daniel Rechtshaffen graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2002, where he placed first in moot court in Toronto and second in Canada, and was one of 10 students from the 258 person class to receive the Student Honour Award.

Daniel Rechtshaffen Criminal Defence was established in 2003, and has been devoted exclusively to criminal and regulatory law since that time. Mr. Rechtshaffen combs through every last shred of evidence with surgical precision, works tirelessly preparing for trial, and most importantly, applies sound judgement to all of his cases.

Daniel has represented clients charged with crimes that range from white collar offences & frauds, to serious personal injury offences such as murders and sexual assaults, to impaired driving, and everything in between. Daniel has special interest in complex, large-scale organized crime prosecutions, including gun and drug offences involving police wiretapping and surveillance.

Daniel has also had great success in exposing police corruption; there is nothing he likes better than obtaining justice for clients who have been victims of racial profiling or oppressive police tactics.

REPUTATION

Daniel Rechtshaffen has built an impressive reputation among colleagues, Crown Attorneys and Judges, by always being impeccably prepared. There is no amount of investigation, research or preparation that Daniel considers too great. The singular goal is to get the absolute best possible result for the client. By design, Daniel Rechtshaffen Criminal Defence is a low-volume boutique practice. The client roster at any given time is kept manageable, so that every detail of your case can be exhaustively examined, leaving no stone unturned.

Daniel is regularly consulted by and collaborates with colleagues practicing in Corporate Law, Tax Law, Family Law, Immigration Law, Civil Litigation, IP Law and Entertainment Law, whenever they have criminal issues arise for their clients.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Since his call to the bar, Mr. Rechtshaffen has continuously given back to the community. Daniel has been both a coach and a judge for the OJEN (Ontario Justice Education Network) Mock Trial Competitions, the LAWS (Law in Action Within Schools) Mock Trial Program, the Lerners Cup Moot Competition at Osgoode Hall, The Osgoode Cup Moot competition, and The Oxford Price Media Law Moot. Daniel has also been a guest instructor at the Osgoode Hall Criminal Intensive Program, a presenter at Criminal Lawyers Association continuing legal education (CLE) events, and has traveled to the United States to be a conference speaker on Canadian legal issues.

Outside of the legal world, Daniel is a dedicated supporter of the arts. Daniel was twice Co-Chair of the Opening Night fundraiser for Art Toronto, raising over $2,000.000 for the Art Gallery of Ontario, and was a committee member for 2 years before that. Daniel has also been on the committee for the Canadian Art Foundation Gala, and has written a chapter in a book on Toronto Graffiti.
